WHY DO WE NEED TO BUILD? AREN’T WE FINE WITH WHAT WE HAVE?
We are fine if it’s only for us. Our vision to reach our region by taking church to the people will gain great momentum with three solid facilities along the 322 corridor. As those three sites develop we will have a greater capacity to support our work in Warriors Mark and future sites.
WHY BUILD AT HARVEST FIELDS?
There is a long story of God’s gift to us of the property at Harvest Fields. But the short story is that we were able to buy over 100 acres within 10 minutes of the center of our community for $500,000. Add to that short story the beauty of the property, countless hours spent praying and pondering with leaders, and repeatedly coming to the conclusion that God desires us to dwell in this land. Plus with the strategy of a Calvary gathering within 15 minutes of everyone in the region, Harvest Fields becomes a strategic location.
WHAT WILL OUR FUTURE GATHERINGS LOOK LIKE?
Our current plan is that all the gatherings at 1250 University Drive would move to Harvest Fields. We will do all we can to solidify Midtown’s place at The State Theatre and we will buy land for future facilities in Gray’s Woods and Warriors Mark. Calvary’s leadership is currently praying about future potential sites.
IF I GO TO A DIFFERENT GATHERING, WHY SHOULD I GIVE?
Great question and a fair question – give because it’s not so much about a building as it is about our one vision to reach people. Not just hundreds, but thousands. Not just now, but for generations to come. Give because if we can reach the next generation at the center of our community, we will shape the future. Give because you are investing in our community and in Myanmar. You are investing in sending out leaders to make a difference around the world. Give because it will move the multi-site movement forward. Give because generosity is an adventure that is not to be missed.
I’VE HEARD ABOUT PROBLEMS WITH HARVEST FIELDS…
There have certainly been a number of hurdles we’ve had to overcome, but in the last year each of the major roadblocks has been removed. Our access road is built and we have a connection to public sewer. In fact, the resolution of our septic needs is a God-story in and of itself! We are ready to build.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN WITH OUR FACILITY AT 1250 UNIVERSITY DRIVE?
Our top facility priorities involve Harvest Fields, Gray’s Woods, Warriors Mark and The State Theatre. Our facility at 1250 University Drive has served us well, and we’re hopeful it will continue to serve the Church of the Centre Region.
WHAT ABOUT THE MONEY FROM THE CAPITAL CAMPAIGN 8 YEARS AGO?
Through great generosity about 2.5 million dollars were given as a result of the last capital campaign. That generosity set the stage for success now. In broad terms, we have half a million in the bank. We paid 1 million for the land and the access road. The remainder has been used for design and development costs. See the Harvest Fields Budget Breakdown and the Original Campaign Breakdown charts. Dan Dorsey, our executive pastor, can give you a more detailed breakdown. ddorsey@calvarysc.org
IF WE DO THIS, WILL CALVARY CHANGE?
We hope so. We hope that Calvary is always on the journey of change. Calvary is not a perfect place filled with perfect people; we are all on the journey of change. On the other hand, what we love about Calvary will not change. Our desire to passionately know Christ will not change. Our focus on community will not change. Our diversity of worship and points of view will not change. Our love of grace and our desire to serve will not change. But we will change. Generosity has a way of changing us… for the better.
WHY ARE WE CHANGING TO ONE FUND GIVING?
There are several reasons for this change. First, this approach reminds us that we are one movement with one vision. With a God-sized goal of $8.5 million, every dollar given will count as a part of our one vision to be part of God’s story in the world. Second, when we give to different funds, we place greater value on some giving and less value on other giving. When we separate “missions giving” from “supporting the church,” it is easy to forget that support for the local church is support for the mission. The church is Christ’s “Plan A” for reaching our community and the nations with the Gospel.
WILL ONE FUND TAKE AWAY ALL OUR SPECIAL FUNDS AND OFFERINGS?
During this two-year period, every contribution to God’s work through Calvary is a contribution to our One Fund. With the exception of gifts to personal support or sponsorships, everything funded through special funds in the past will continue as budget items in the One Fund. We will not give to separate funds. Therefore, every weekend becomes an opportunity to celebrate and contribute towards what God is doing in and through Calvary as we give for our church, community and world.
